Damon just woke up from a nap, looked at me and said "I'm bummed." Today has been a rough and unexpected day for our family of four. Lately Cyrus hasn't been eating his dog food, we thought it was because we switched brands, but it turns out to not be the case. Damon bought him some of his regular food and when we wouldn't eat that with a raw egg mixed in, we knew something was wrong. We weighed him and he gained 4 pounds, not good news. So we spent two and half hours at the vet today. Bloodwork, ultrasounds, x-rays and fluid withdrawals. At one point we were told that he might have to have emergency surgery due to a blockage in his spleen. Then we were told that it could be anything from cancer to an infection in his liver. He has a lot of fluid in his insides, which they think are from his liver acting up. Poor Cy. He was under a lot of stress, we could hear him upstairs whining as they were poking and prodding him. We will find out more tomorrow when the vet calls with some of the test results. He goes back in on Tuesday for another ultrasound and for another doctor's opinion. We tried to feed him pizza, after he finally ate it, he threw it up. At least he is drinking water. We will try feeding him some white rice and bland chicken this evening, lets hope that that works.
Damon and I were headed up to Chico this weekend for a fun trip, but for now we will stay at home and watch Cy carefully. We have always tried to prepare ourselves for this time, but we thought that we had 2-3 years left, most of his siblings and both his parents passed away when they were 13. I haven't felt the power of a broken heart in years and the pain is just numbing. Here is Cy relaxing from his stressful day with his sister and dad:
